Here is a (too brief) look back at Reunion #10 in 1981. I did not attend this reunion – not that I remember, but I’m not in the group photos and I don’t have a Madison Ave. School photo, so I suppose I did not.
I have more photos from the later reunions but I thought I would post #10 first in the hope that people would be encouraged to contribute their own 1981 photos from the event. You can send photos to the reunion team at ihsclassof1971 at gmail.com and I will update this page.
Many of the photos on this website have been seen online in our 1971 Facebook group, the general IHS Facebook group or on classmates’ individual pages, but we know that there are more photos out there in your collections. (I always recommend that people use the Google PhotoScan app on their phone to make good quality copies of paper photos.)
The photos on this site are somewhat resized depending on your device and browser, but you can download the full-size images as you would any online image.
With some overlap, here is the group of attendees in 3 parts. I will make no attempt to identify the group person-by-person but feel free to comment on this page about your memories of this event. I’m not sure if these were taken by an official photographer but these are the best quality I have found.
Here are two dramatic productions by the Class of 71.
Dark of the Moon was the senior play for the class of 1971. (Never to be confused with the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon !)
The play was originally produced on Broadway in 1945 and was later used for many college and high-school productions.
The story is set in the Appalachian Mountains and centers on the character of John, a “witch boy” who seeks to become human after falling in love with a human girl, Barbara Allen. A very old European folk song “The Ballad of Barbara Allen”, was the basis for the story.
Although Dark of the Moon is not a musical, it was originally billed as a “legend with music” and characters do sing in most productions.
A clipping from The Irvington Herald – not very clear but it has all the credits. Apparently, some roles had understudies since multiple names are given.
Left to right: Joe Longinotti preaching. In front of the preacher is Lori McAuvic (mother) & Liz Grasmueck (as Barbara Allen ) Brian Sanchez. Repenting are Debbie Dobiszewski and Mike Emanuele. To their right, half of Barry Feigenbaum, ???? and Charlie Ambielli behind Sauci Bosner and Mike Geller at far right.
Julie Altschuler, backstage in wardrobe. Is that Norma Pilone in the background?
From The Irvington Herald: Anna Paszczak sleeps under the watch of Dave Heller with 3 fair witches behind him – Gail Fucci, Gail Gross & Karen Repke.
The witches – fair and dark, sultry and wicked. Karen Repke, Michelle Leone, Nancy Kuscher, Michelle Pascale, Gail Fucci, Suzanne Tardi
John (Dave Heller) carries off Barbara Allen
Charlie Ambielli, Joe Longionotti, Tom Trokan, Maureen Cooney
Wayne Decker, Tom Trokan, Anna Paszczak, Alexis Diakow , Mike Emanuele
Uncle Smellicue is not having a good night (Mike Geller)
Poor tortured soul Barbara Allen (Anna Paszczak)
The men are clearly charmed by Miss Metcalf (Sharon Purcell)
Let us not forget those behinds the scenes…
Mr. Weiger, director (Nancy Golaski was Student Director)
Mr. English doing some makeup bs
The playbill contained many pages of ads and boosters – some handwritten from classes and groups, some printed from town businesses.
Another smaller production came out of a Mrs. Stark’s junior English class who performed excerpts from Shakespeare’s The Tempest . Some other English classes were the audience.
Since Shakespeare only included one female in the play (Miranda, Prospero’s daughter), our female classmates took some male roles. (A reversal of men taking all the women’s parts in Shakespeare’s time.) We don’t have a cast list for this production, so if you know names and characters, post a comment.
Frank Bellis as the wizard, Prospero.

in back, Frank Bellis & Michelle Pascale. Middle: Marco Budnyj, Linda Fidnick, Maureen Cooney and Fred Knapp – Front: Barry Feigenbaum and Peter Radomskyj
Is that Dave Heller drinking? And the person in the middle (Is that Barry?) may have been playing Ariel (the spirit) though in the photo above this Linda looks dressed as a spirit. Hmmmm… Peter Radomskyj is on the right.
Where, when and what? And that crucifix? Not sure what Mike is up to here. Dance move?
Madison Avenue School is at the corner of Orange Ave. and Madison Ave. It was a K-6 school for many years. This was my elementary school and when I was in kindergarten in 1958-59, we were in the “new” building that was at the corner of Madison and Cummings St. that held the Kindergaten, first and second-grade classes. We had two classes per grade.
The original building was closed in 2013 and in need of many updates and repairs. It was determined that the cost of retrofitting the buildings to the current state requirements was cost-prohibitive. So, students from that area were sent to Mt. Vernon Ave. School as a “swing” school during demolition and construction.
The Madison Avenue School buildings (original building and K-2 addition) were demolished in 2016. The new building was opened in September 2019 and is now a pre-K through grade 5 school.
If you are a Madison Avenue School graduate from any year, consider joining our Facebook group and join in the conversation and see many more photos of the school, classes and the neighborhood.

Classic classroom – remember those desks, the handwriting border, those clocks that we stared at hoping for 3 PM…
The cakewalk at the annual fall carnival where you walked around a painted circle on the playground to music and when the music stopped a number determined who won one of the home-baked cakes.
Parents ran all the concessions and games at the carnival. Here a father is cooking burgers and hot dogs.
