Reunion Ideas and Suggestions

Updated June 2, 2019

As ideas and suggestions about the what, when, where and how of Reunion 50 gets filtered to the team (via this website, email or the Facebook page), we will try to collect on this page. Please add your own comments and suggestions to this post too!

“I envision the event in a hotel where people are encouraged to spend the night, so we are not dealing with drinking and driving etc, in the Month of January where venues are less expensive. Where in NJ this happens is not important since everyone is so scattered. South Jersey would be fun, someplace like Asbury Park would have great deals, and of course many are huge fans of Atlantic City.” – Laura McDonald (Krampetz)

“A dinner theater event, maybe with a kind of mystery involved, or a cruise around Manhattan, or along the Delaware , or along the ocean with a band and dancing. Maybe a two day affair with a night at a venue we all know and love with a band (Jerry are you listening?) we can get behind. then perhaps a picnic at Monmouth park, even sponsor a race the class of 71 stakes. yes it can be done I’ve done it with just a few friends and a little cash.”      Steven Ball

“I would like to see something that encompasses a weekend event. Maybe down the shore with a get together Friday night and a party on Saturday night. A DJ and dancing . Maybe a breakfast on Sunday that families could attend. I think that would be a great time for our 50th. I know the class of 69 is having their reunion this fall at white sands in pt pleasant, and that seems to be how they planned their event.”     Ellen Patrinick Girnius

“Maybe we could have a picnic one afternoon before or after the formal evening. That way we can talk more, meet families, maybe play some games, karaoke, ect. Just time to spend with each other less formally, and have fun.”    Robert C. Hofmann

Reunion Team Update

If you are part of the IHS Class of 1971 and discovered this site – Welcome! Although the reunion committee has been emailing classmates that we have current address for, and posting in our Facebook group, that doesn’t include all of our class. This website will collect all the updates on organizing our 50th reunion.

This is the latest email update:

We hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. It’s been a little over 2 weeks since our first communication and we wanted to give everybody an update. The good news is our Reunion team has grown. John Manning has agreed to sign up for Reunion duty again and will coordinate the financial aspects of the reunion. Ken Ronkowitz has volunteered to be our “Social Media Techie” and webmaster. Rhonda Goldberger and Tom Trokan have agreed to assist with the event planning. Karen Long Rohe, Terry Masucci and Karen Mericle Suter have also agreed to assist as needed.

Concerning this website: What suggestions do you have for website content to make it useful and relevant and a site that you will want to periodically check? Do any of you have old photos from our IHS years that you would like to post for all to enjoy? You can subscribe to the blog and get notified by email whenever new content is added.

When we sent out our first communication we asked for your help. How did you do? Do you have any additional email addresses for us or updates to your information? We have gotten a few updates and new email addresses (and unfortunately were notified of a few additional classmates who passed) however we still only have email addresses for about 36% of the living classmates 205 out of 570. At this stage of the planning this is where we need your help the most. There are quite a few classmates who are on Facebook and are Facebook friends with some of you and yet we don’t have any email contact information for them. Please take the time to go over the list of people where we don’t have any email addresses and private message them to try and get us their info. Or, try giving them a call to reconnect if they have a valid phone number listed. Be a super sleuth and find those Class of ’71 grads. Make this a challenge and see who can get us the most missing email addresses – we can report who is the most successful on the website.

We only have one 50-year reunion, so we want to make sure we get this right. Our goal is to make this a fantastic get together – one that everyone will be talking about for a long time to come. Please use the contact form on this website or the class Gmail account, or email directly to ihsclassof1971@gmail.com to stay in touch with the Reunion Team.

Have a great summer!

Do You Remember 1971?

I’m sure everyone in our class remembers a lot of things from our graduation year – school memories, the summer after senior year, heading off to college in the fall or starting a job. But our memories of the year in history and pop culture may be a bit faded.

I recall all the references in this time capsule video of 1971, though I’m not sure I would have remembered all of them as having been a part of 1971.

Which ones hold the strongest memories for you? What is missing?
